Updated HHS NHSN Reporting Requirements
In an updated memo from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the point-of-care testing results are now required as part of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) system.
The HHS memo identifies that “CMS-certified long term care facilities shall submit point-of-care COVID-19 testing data, including antigen testing data, to CDC’s NHSN." To report the point-of-care test results to NHSN, facilities will need to upgrade from SAMS Level-1 access to SAMS Level-3 access.

Join NYSHFA | NYSCAL on Thursday, December 3rd for the Survey Tips & Trends 2020 Webinar. The program is being presented by Ms. Linda Elizaitis of CMS Compliance Group, Inc.
In a year that has been predominantly focused on Infection Prevention & Control, it behooves providers to look beyond this regulatory hotspot and remember that “normal” survey & certification activities are underway again in New York State. During this webinar, the presenter will recap what’s happened in 2020 from a regulatory compliance perspective while providing insight on current survey trends, including Immediate Jeopardy-level citations issued this year. Attendees will learn tips to reduce the likelihood of deficient practices occurring in their facilities through systems enhancement and quality improvement activities, as well as understand where they need to focus their survey preparation efforts based on survey activity in their Area Office.
