NYSDOH Call with Nursing Home and Assisted Living Provider Associations

Author: Jackie Pappalardi and Tarrah Quinlan* Published in Clinical & Quality

NYSHFA participated in a call today with the NYSDOH Surveillance and Epidemiology staff. DOH announced a state vaccination program separate from the recently announced federal program, Pharmacy Partnership for LTC Program for COVID-19 Vaccination. Providers should enroll in both the federal and state programs to allow flexibility in ordering and receiving the COVID-19 vaccination when the vaccine becomes available. The DOH anticipates releasing a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) to both skilled nursing and assisted living facilities with more information on how to sign up with the state vaccination programs. This DAL is expected to be released as early as tomorrow. DOH also announced that a webinar providing further information regarding this program will occur next week.

Other updates discussed at today’s meeting included clarification regarding pulse oximeters that have been distributed from Homeland Security. Such devices were sent to those facilities experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak as a tool to decrease the spread of COVID-19 and early recognition of changes in condition of residents. Attestations that accompanied the machines were to confirm receipt of the oximeters and facilities should make their best effort to monitor all residents every 4 hours.
