Send Comments to DEC for August 21st Hazardous Waste Rule

Jackie Pappalardi Allison Gold in Clinical & Quality

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking comments on the new rules, including current common practices, potential problems related to controlled substances and other implications for long-term care providers.  The new rule revises management standards for the management of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals (HWP) for health care facilities and reverse distributors. These provisions prohibit the disposal of HWP down the drain (sewering). The ban on sewering HWP will go into effect nationwide on August 21, 2019. As part of our continued discussions with DEC on the new rules, NYSHFA/NYSCAL is also compiling feedback for the Department so members are encouraged to send comments and/or questions to NYSHFA/NYSCAL. Please send comments to and to NYSFHA/NYSCAL staff listed below.
