DOH: FREE Antibiotic Use in Nursing Homes Webinar - Featuring Guest CDC Speakers

The NYSDOH “Collaboration to Launch Antibiotic Stewardship Program” (CLASP) is offering a free webinar this month that may be of special interest to those in nursing home/long-term care settings, featuring two top CDC experts on antibiotic stewardship and health care associated infection surveillance in nursing homes. We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our third collaborative webinar, Respiratory Tract Infections in Nursing Homes: Challenges and Opportunities for Improvement on Thursday, April 18th from 12-1 pm. We would like to extend an invitation to all physicians and other providers in your facility to attend this webinar, as it will feature two CDC subject matter experts with experience in geriatrics, antibiotic stewardship in the LTC setting, and management of respiratory infections in nursing home residents.

Theresa Rowe, DO, MS is a geriatrician and medical officer in Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, Surveillance Branch, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is also board certified in infectious diseases. Her areas of concentration include health care associated infection surveillance in nursing homes. 

Sarah Kabbani, MD, MSc is an adult infectious disease physician and medical officer in the Office of Antibiotic Stewardship, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her areas of concentration include older adult and long term care antibiotic stewardship. 

Webinar objectives:

  • Review the epidemiology and diagnostic challenges of respiratory infections in nursing homes.
  • Describe treatment practices and opportunities for optimizing antibiotic prescribing.
  • Evaluate the role of surveillance to improve detection and quality of care.

The day of the webinar, we will send all registered participants a copy of the slides that will be presented as well as the information to call in.
