2019 Education for Patient Driven Payment Model

Nancy Leveille and Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

NYSHFA is suggesting two primary strategies of education to become proficient in the new Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) for Medicare reimbursement effective October 1, 2019. Therefore, NYSHFA is recommending members participate in both AHCA’s and NYSHFA’s Zimmet sponsored programming. Both AHCA and Zimmet educational programs should complement each other to provide expertise for the variety of SNF staff including the administrative level. More information to follow regarding specific dates.

1.  AHCA will be offering the PDPM Academy. This is for members only of AHCA and NYSHFA. Members who register for the PDPM Academy will have access to the PDPM 101 webinar as well as the workshop scheduled for March 5th at the Albany Marriott. At the in-person workshop, participants will go in-depth with hands on experiential learning by aligning buildings and companies to transition to PDPM using AHCA’s Copyrighted PDPM Readiness Tool and Core Competencies.

Members will need their username and password to access the PDPM Resource Center which can be found under the tab Facility Resources. Once in the resource section scroll down the page and click on PDPM 101 webinar to register. https://www.ahcancal.org/Pages/Default.aspx

Additionally, included in the PDPM academy, monthly webinars will be offered on key topics and emerging PDPM issues and “How To” webinars on AHCA developed tools. These monthly webinars will be 90 minutes in length and are built around the core competencies. The first hour will focus on PDPM topic areas not covered in the face-to-face training or updated based on new information from CMS and will include newly available AHCA tools. The remaining 30 minutes is for open Q&A on any PDPM topic. The FAQ’s derived from the calls will be posted on the AHCA’s website one week after webinars.

2.  NYSHFA will also be offering PDPM education sponsored by Zimmet HealthCare Services Group LLC. These full day sessions will be available for members and non-members and will be conducted across three regions of the state; Western, Central and Metro in early April. These programs will teach participants how to understand the program and payment requirements including operational changes for success. Zimmet will assist facilities with implementation strategies and management of the new system for administrators, nurses, therapists and coders. Zimmet’s program is open to all SNF providers. Prior to attending these educational sessions, please attend the webinar on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 (2 hours); 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm EST, PDPM “C-Level” Overview offered by Zimmet.
