DOH Advisory: EDRS Full Implementation for Nursing Homes

Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

It has been nearly 2 years since the Bureau of Vital Records began the statewide implementation of the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). At this time, the Department of Health would like to formally announce the completion of the first phase of the statewide, EDRS roll-out. This will require the full compliance for all nursing homes in New York State, excluding New York City, to electronically complete and certify death certificates using the EDRS. In the event that a licensed physician does not have an account or EDRS role for the nursing home, it is up to the facility to designate a certifier who can certify on behalf of the attending physician.
