Clarification from the Department of Health Regarding Case Mix

Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

We have received the following clarification from the Department of Health regarding case mix. The “lookback” window includes a period both before and after the selected date. Specifically, it looks back 92 days and forward 13 days to choose the closest MDS for each resident, for both new and not newly admitted individuals. Since the intent is to find the closest representation of acuity, as of the selected date, an MDS chosen within 13 days after the census date would be more current than one on file from months prior. As such, assessments that fall between the 92 days prior through 13 days after the census date are eligible for selection, and assessments will not be excluded if they fall within that window.
