DAL NH 18-04: Inspection & Maintenance of Patient Care Related Electrical Equipment and Generator Testing (PCREE)

In January of 2017 the Department issued guidance to providers regarding the adoption of the 2012 editions of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, the Life Safety Code (LSC) and NFPA 99, the Health Care Facilities Code (HCFC) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition, CMS has adopted the codes that are listed as mandatory references in NFPA 101 and NFPA 99. See attached DAL.

Nursing Home Discharge Requirements

The purpose of this DAL is to remind nursing facilities of their obligation to uphold the Olmstead decision by ensuring that all residents who express a desire to return to the community are provided the opportunity and assistance by the facility to allow the resident to live in the most integrated and least restrictive setting possible. See attached DAL.

2018 Advanced Administrator Program

The six (6) day Advanced Nursing Home Administrator Course is designed as part of the FQC Long Term Care Leadership Institute. Nursing Home Administrators who have successfully completed the basic Nursing Home Administrator Leadership course and/or those with over two years of experience are encouraged to apply. The LNHA competencies are used  as the basic framework for the design of the curriculum, but have been built upon to enhance the skills and process methods administrators utilize to lead their teams.

Assisted Living Executive Director Program

This five day intensive leadership program guides the Assisted Living Administrator through the regulatory; financial; human resources; customer care services and supports; and leadership domains for the purpose of building administrative knowledge and skills. Participants will receive a Foundation for Quality Care Certificate of Completion as well as 30 CEU's for attending all five (5) days of the program.

Audio Conference - 2018 Annual Update: Fraud, Waste & Abuse Enforcement Trends

On September 14th, NYSHFA/NYSCAL will host an Audio Conference entitled "2018 Annual Update: Fraud, Waste & Abuse Enforcement Trends". This annual presentation provides an overview of the fraud, waste, and abuse enforcement landscape and addresses current trends and hot topics. Ted Townsend is a Senior Associate in the Health and Human Services Group who represents health care facilities in a wide range of operational, compliance, and governance matters including counseling those facilities with respect to fraud and abuse matters. 

John Bringewatt is a Senior Associate in the Government and Internal Investigations Group who represents health care facilities in responding to enforcement actions by agencies such as the U.S. Department of
Justice and the New York Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
