CMS is Reissuing LTCH Provider Preview Reports Originally Issued in June 2018, Regarding an Error

Author: Lisa Volk* Published in Clinical & Quality

CMS is Reissuing LTCH Provider Preview Reports originally issued in June 2018, regarding an error in the data for the quality measure Discharge to Community – Post-Acute Care Long-Term Care Hospital.

Please note that your previous Provider Preview Report for the Discharge to Community - Post-Acute Care (PAC) Long-Term Care Hospital Quality Reporting Program (L018.01) measure contained an error. Your preview data that was released in June 2018 incorporated your risk-standardized rate and performance category based only on 7 of the 8 required quarters of data. Data from October through December 2016 (Q1 FY 2017) were inadvertently omitted.

CMS has reissued the LTCH Provider Preview Reports containing the corrected Discharge to Community (DTC) measure data, and your corrected reports are now available via your CMS CASPER system folders. We have redistributed this report for the purposes of the 30-day preview period in advance of public reporting for the September 2018 LTCH Compare Refresh. LTCH providers will have a full 30 days to preview the corrected DTC data. The preview period will begin on August 1, 2018 and will continue through August 31, 2018. Any inquiries related to the corrected data must be submitted to CMS no later than 11:59:59 p.m. ET on August 31, 2018.

Please note that this version contains only the corrected DTC measure data.

Please submit any inquiries regarding this report to LTCHPRquestions@cms.hhs.gov.

For guidance on accessing your Provider Preview Report we refer you to the following document, which is available on the LTCH QRP Public Reporting website:  https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/LTCH-Quality-Reporting/Downloads/LTCH-Provider-Preview-Report-Access-Instructions.pdf.

It's no surprise to skilled nursing facility leaders that quality outcomes is the new holy grail. Understanding how CMS collects this data and the methodology used to report on these quality measures is the first step to ensuring your performance is adequate or identifying an opportunity for improvement. Leaders must also understand the mechanisms that populate the CMS QRP Measures, establish processes for reviewing this data routinely, compare outcomes to benchmarks (national, state, corporate, etc.), and ensure timely identification of quality improvement opportunities.

Audio Conference - Protect Against Legionella (and its nasty little friends)

Author: Scott Jackson

On September 7th, NYSHFA/NYSCAL will host an Audio Conference entitled "Protect Against Legionella (and its nasty little friends)". In this audio conference we will discuss how you can protect your facility— patients, staff, visitors (and enterprise value)—from disease outbreaks caused by pathogens  that grow in facility plumbing systems, including Legionnella, nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM), Acinetobacter, and others. We will discuss what these diseases are, how organisms grow in the system, and how to control that growth. We also will discuss how to respond (and how NOT to respond) to an outbreak caused by these organisms. We will discuss how to remediate a contaminated plumbing system, protect residents and staff in the meantime, work with the health department, and communicate with residents, families, staff, and the media.
