Author: * Published in Membership

Attached is the NYSHFA/NYSCAL 2018 Scholarship Application Packet. NYSHFA sponsors this Scholarship program to provide financial help to the career-minded who are working in health care facilities that are members of NYSHFA.

Each District winner receives a $750 Scholarship and educational programs must be strictly related to the applicant’s health care career. Applicants should give the application to their administrator who, in turn, sends the material to the area's NYSHFA/NYSCAL District President.  Each District sets its own timeline for awarding scholarships.  However, NYSHFA/NYSCAL must be notified in writing of your award recipient(s) no later than May 31, 2018. Note that this deadline is earlier than in past years.

If you have any questions about the scholarship program, please contact Joanne O’Connor at NYSHFA/NYSCAL at 518-462-4800 ext. 23 or joconnor@nyshfa.org.

2018 Art from the Heart Program

Author: * Published in Foundation for Quality Care News

The Foundation for Quality Care, Inc., and the New York State Health Facilities Association, Inc./New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSHFA/NYSCAL) are thrilled to launch the 14th Annual “Art from the Heart” program, which is designed to spotlight the artists who live in member facilities.

Those of you who are fortunate to work in the skilled nursing profession are well familiar with the special gifts and images created by the residents entrusted in your care. As your Statewide Association we believe it important to continually recognize the creative abilities of your dynamic residents and the vibrant activities which occur each and every day in your facilities. We encourage you to consider holding your own competition as a means of selecting the two submissions from your facility.

The rules of the contest are outlined in the attached brochureThe submission deadline for the 2018 Art from the Heart Program is June 29, 2018.

As in the past, an independent panel of judges will select 13 winning entries which will be featured in the 2019 Art from the Heart wall calendar.  Additional pieces will be chosen to be part of the annual public exhibition.  The Foundation is currently exploring opportunities to showcase the winning entries and will also continue to sponsor the “Legislator Artwork on Loan Program”, where the winning pieces will be loaned to Legislators for display in their offices.

The “Art from the Heart” calendar will be distributed to the artists, their families, NYSHFA/NYSCAL member facilities, state lawmakers, and government officials.

Please join the many facilities which have participated previously.  Have some fun and help us recognize the talented and vibrant artists who reside in your facility.

If you have any questions, please contact Joanne O’Connor at the Foundation for Quality Care.
