Paid Family Leave (PFL) Begins 1/1/18

Paid Family Leave (PFL) becomes a mandatory benefit for New York employees, effective January 1, 2018. PFL provides paid time off for a variety of family matters, and is a rider to your statutory short-term disability policy. The PFL benefit is capped at 8 weeks in 2018, payable at 50% of an employee’s average weekly wage. The benefit then gradually increases annually through 1/1/21 (with a maximum of 12 weeks payable at 67% of an employee’s average weekly wage).
