CMS Updates for Fire & Smoke Door Inspections
Lisa Volk and Nancy Leveille in Clinical & Quality
After originally providing some conflicting information earlier this year, CMS has clarified the Life Safety Code® requirements for fire and smoke door assembly inspections through an S&C memo. Key points include:
- Fire door assemblies should be tested in accordance with the 2010 edition of NFPA 80
- Corridor doors and other non-rated door assemblies are not subject to annual inspection
- Smoke barrier door assemblies are not subject to annual inspection
EXTENSION: Due to the previous confusion surrounding door inspection requirements, CMS is extending the compliance date to January 1, 2018. Click here to access the full S&C Memo.
