DOH 2017 – 2018 Medicaid Accelerated eXchange (MAX) Series Enrollment – DSRIP

Deanna Stephenson in Managed Care

The New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) announces the next round of the Medicaid Accelerated eXchange (MAX) Series, focusing on improving care for high utilizers and sustaining change. The MAX Series is a dynamic eight month program aligned with the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) goals, to redesign healthcare throughout our state. Through 3 full-day, highly structured and dynamic workshops, with corresponding Action Periods for implementing systemic process improvements, the MAX Series brings together frontline care providers throughout the care continuum to implement change and drive results at the local level.

To develop sustainability of the MAX Series, the NYS DOH added an additional component to the MAX Series: The MAX Training Program (MTP) (formerly known as Train-the-Trainer). The MTP scales the process improvement work from the MAX Series, by training participants in facilitation techniques and rapid cycle process improvement methods, while simultaneously supporting the development of a Sustainability Plan to scale and sustain healthcare redesign. This ongoing work has been coined the Medicaid Accelerated eXchange New York (MAXny) Series.

The NYS DOH is issuing an open call to all interested parties to begin considering:

  • Lead hospital sites to enroll in the MAX Series, who will focus on improving care for high utilizer patients through hospital-led process changes involving local networks for community-partners; and,
  • Candidates with strong leadership and organizational skills to join the MAX Training Program (MTP), to create MAXny Series knowledge professionals to scale healthcare redesign across your PPS.

*Please note that hospitals cannot have previously participated in the MAX Series, and cannot be a current site participating in the MAXny Series.

Please find a full overview of the MAX Series attached.

Enrollment for the MAX Series and MAX Training Program will take place from August 1st through 31st. Please direct any inquiries to Lily Gilbert, MAX Series Program Manager, at, and Alexis Pumill, MAX Training Program Manager, at
