April 6th Audio Conference - The Challenges of Today's Changing Nursing Home Population: Balancing the Three R's

Nursing homes are increasingly faced with confronting challenging issues related to residents, from admission to stay to discharge. Whether the resident’s challenges stem from an early onset of dementia or other unique needs, nursing homes have to cope with balancing the rights of the individual with rights of the other residents. Regulations regarding resident privacy and freedom from physical, mental and sexual abuse can make this challenging. This is coupled with the potential for increased enforcement from CMS and the NYS Department of Health regarding resident rights related to social media. This presentation will focus on addressing the recent hot topic compliance issues for difficult to place residents from admission to discharge. By the end of the presentation, attendees will understand: Admission obligations related to difficult to place residents whether from early onset dementia, sex offender status of other complicating factors; Hot topics for protecting resident’s rights from sexual, physical and mental abuse during a resident’s stay including social media concerns; and the realities of contested discharge process and concerns to address.
