New Requirements for Fire and Smoke Door Assembly Inspections – Must be completed by July 5, 2017. Make your plans now for compliance!

After years in the making, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) made it official...effective July 2016 CMS adopted the 2012 edition of the Life Safety Code® (NFPA 101), replacing the 2000 edition. This change brought with it many new and changed requirements and, in general, your buildings needed to be in compliance with this new standard effective November 2016.

However, the clock is ticking on meeting the new requirements for an annual inspection of your fire and smoke door assemblies. The first “annual” inspection must be accomplished by July 5, 2017 to be in compliance. These requirements include specific details including inventory, inspection, testing, repairs and, of course, documentation. This inspection “shall be performed by individuals who can demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the operating components of the type of door being subjected to testing.” Make your plans now to ensure compliance.
