Dr. Howard Zucker, NYSDOH’s Commissioner of Health, Initiates an Antimicrobial Resistance Prevention and Control Task Force

Nancy Leveille and Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

Nancy Leveille, NYSHFA’s Director of Member Operational Support, attended the day long summit on November 1, 2016 as the kick off for this initiative. This project mirrors many elements that are in CMS’ Requirements of Participation related to infection control, surveillance and antibiotic stewardship. Dr. Denise Cardo, CDC, presented and participated in the health care facilities’ sub group discussion. The goal is to increase patient safety across the health continuum by increasing skill levels of surveillance, prevention of inappropriate antibiotic utilization and measurement and reduction of resistant organism occurrences. The sub committees will meet quarterly to implement strategies in all health care settings. The task force recently shared some of the presentations from this initial meeting. Attached Is the Overview of the Task Force by Elizabeth Dufort, NYSDOH and the second is the national effort set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) presented by Dr. Cardo. NYSHFA will keep members updated as more information is shared.
