MDS - Introduction to Section GG

Lisa Volk in Clinical & Quality

Beginning October 1, 2016 skilled nursing centers will be required to report information to CMS for the SNF Quality Reporting Program required under IMPACT (Improving Medicare Post-Acute Care Transformation) Act of 2014. As a result, section GG self-care and mobility will be added to MDS 3.0 which will be required to be completed on the PPS 5 day and PPS Part A Discharge Assessments. The admission and discharge self-care and mobility items assess the person’s need for assistance with self-care and mobility activities. There are major differences in the coding of sections of G and GG. Each year on October 1st, CMS releases revisions to the Resident Assessment Instrument Manual (RAI) which contains the directions for completing the required MDSs on residents residing in skilled nursing facilities. This year’s revision will include the new Section GG. See attached information from the AHCA which includes strategies to help prepare for the addition of section GG. Please share with your interdisciplinary team.
