SNF, along with other health facilities, need to complete the DOH survey on the HERDs system to determine how facilities are treating Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) and to evaluate current policies and procedures that facilities have in place. The name of the survey activity in HERDS is: "Regulated Medical Waste Program Survey." See DOH’s full notice that you should have received by email on Thursday March 17, 2016:

Dear Colleague:
The recent Ebola virus disease outbreak raised the New York State Department of Health's (NYSDOH) awareness of the need to remind facilities of requirements that are in place for proper handling and treatment of regulated medical waste (RMW). These requirements are described in the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations Title 10, Part 70 (10 NYCRR, Part 70) and are applicable to hospitals, residential health care facilities, diagnostic and treatment centers and clinical laboratories.

The NYSDOH Wadsworth Center RMW Program has created a survey in the HERDS application on the Health Commerce System (HCS) for those facilities required to comply with 10 NYCRR, Part 70, to determine how facilities are treating RMW and to evaluate current policies and procedures that facilities have in place. The name of the survey activity in HERDS is: "Regulated Medical Waste Program Survey." Please complete this survey no later than: Friday, April 1, 2016.
