Changes Coming to 5 Star – What You Can Do

Karen Morris in Clinical & Quality

AHCA President Mark Parkinson has issued the following memo related to the changes that are coming to the 5 Star rating system as a result of an Executive Action issued in October, some of which are scheduled to go into effect as early as January 1, 2015. These changes could have a significant effect on your 5 Star rating going forward, even if your facility data stays the same, due to the proposed recalibration of the system.  Please review the attached memo and related resources with your team. The memo contains actions you can take to prepare for the changes. We also encourage you to begin using Long Term Care Trend Tracker (see link below) as an easy and efficient way to track your data. It is important to be able to benchmark your data in relation to other facilities, as that also determines your facility score with relation to the cut points. This is a free service provided to all AHCA/NYSHFA members. We have also posted numerous resources on the NYSHFA website to assist you.  The Five Star  Technical Users Manual  is located at http://www.nyshfa.org/files/2013/06/Five-Star-Quality-Rating-System-Technical-Users-Guide.pdf
