NYSHFA/DOH in Discussion Regarding 2014-2 MDS Clarification of New CMS Item

Nancy Leveille & Karen Morris Carl Pucci in Finance & Reimbursement

NYSHFA is working with DOH in an effort to clarify yesterday’s bulletin regarding the 2014-2 MDS item 00420, distinct days of therapy.  (Affecting low and medium rehab RUG services only.)  Member questions regarding vendor software notification and readiness has prompted our request to DOH to postpone implementation to the next MDS collection cycle (October 2014 through January 2015.)  This would enable software vendors time to adjust the MDS crosswalk appropriately.  We also requested that when CMS makes future changes, DOH send a notice to providers, associations and software vendors clarifying the changes to be made.

Members should immediately contact their vendors to ensure compliance to the October 2013 CMS requirements, specifically MDS 3.0 item O0420.
