DOH/NYSERDA Nursing Home Energy Survey Released

Richard Herrick and Carl Pucci in Finance & Reimbursement

The Energy Sub Workgroup (a by-product of the DOH Capital Workgroup) has developed an energy program survey which was distributed to select nursing homes this past Friday.  NYSHFA, working in conjunction with DOH, NYSERDA, and other statewide and regional associations, has distributed the survey to nursing homes whose energy cost/square foot has exceeded statewide benchmarks determined by DOH from RHCF cost report data.  The program would initially involve conducting energy audits, identifying energy efficiency measures, developing project implementation plans and completing cost-benefit analyses.  The second stage of the program would identify funding and financing mechanisms to underwrite feasible energy efficiency projects.  The effort is in support of the Governor’s “Green” initiative, and the intent is to explore assistance and funding for a nursing home energy efficiency pilot program, which could become part of the 2015/16 Executive Budget.

Those facilities receiving the survey are urged to complete it by the deadline, which is this Friday, September 19, 2014.  The pilot program is open to all facilities, and any facility with an interest in seeking additional information should contact NYSHFA for further details.
