Free Influenza Vaccine Still Available

Karen Morris and Nancy Leveille in Clinical & Quality

AMDA (American Medical Director Association) is still looking for facilities who are interested in receiving free influenza vaccine:

Has Your Facility Ordered it's Flu Vaccine?

The AMDA Foundation is seeking participants for an important study aimed at determining if different influenza vaccines produce different outcomes in nursing facility residents.  Long term care facilities who participate in the study may have the opportunity to receive free staff vaccine and get your residents immunized without dealing with the reimbursement paperwork.
As your facility plans for the next influenza season, please consider signing up your facility to be an AMDA Foundation site participant in a study to be conducted by a Brown University research team led by Stefan Gravenstein, MD, MPH, CMD, and Vincent Mor, PhD.  Researchers are recruiting 1,000 facilities in total and the AMDA Foundation will receive a donation for each facility participating as an AMDA Foundation study site. Therefore, please indicate that you were referred by the AMDA Foundation.   This is a great opportunity to participate in long term care research while helping support the mission of the AMDA Foundation.
Participating facilities can earn up to $500 for providing 5 months of vaccination data entry.  Facilities that agree to participate will be asked to use either the standard dose annual trivalent influenza vaccine or the high dose trivalent influenza vaccine. The high dose vaccine is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for people 65 years of age and older. Both vaccines are recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for annual protection against influenza infection in adults.  Click here for the study synopsis.
The only procedure required by the facility is to attend a brief on-line training webinar and to record the number and percent of residents and staff who have received the vaccine each month from November 2013 through March 2014. Once the facility signs up, the study sponsor will provide the facility with either the standard dose or high dose vaccine at no cost for annual influenza vaccination.
Your participation in this study will help support the Foundation's research and education efforts. For more information or to sign up for the study, contact Insight Therapeutics, LLC at 757-625-6040 or  Please note that you must identify your facility as an AMDA Foundation study site in order for the Foundation to receive the donation for your participation.
